Inside The Huddle: Bentley Falcons Keep Rolling Along

The Bentley Falcons are 6-1 after a great 17-14 win over the Southern Connecticut State Owls last Friday.  The win was enough to propel the Falcons up two notches to number 4 in the NCAA DII Football Super Regional One rankings.

Friday night was another rainy game for Bentley, but thanks to a superb performance from the defense the Falcons were able to pull another one out.  Chris Carroll tied a school record with three interceptions and Matt Zahoruiko matched his career best with 15 tackles on the night.  Addison Davids also had a pick on a much needed third down pass for the Owls.

The Bentley offense had no problems moving the ball up and down the field, but had trouble getting into the end zone.  The Falcon offense had a total of 310 yards of offense with 129 of it on the ground.

The stats are pretty equal between both teams as the Owls gained seven more yards than the Falcons, had one less first down, and had the ball a minute and forty four seconds less than Bentley.

Every college athlete has to deal with midterms about half way through the semester.  For freshman this may be the hardest thing to get use to as a lot more preparation goes into a college midterm than a high school exam or final.

One great thing about a midterm is if you do poorly you still have half the semester to get help from teachers and get ready for the final exam.  With the compact schedule that athletes have it is very hard to find time to get tutoring from teachers, but it is something that most athletes have to do in their career because with practice schedules we are not able to make it to help sessions that are usually during practices.

This week the Falcons are traveling to New York to play the Pace Setters on Saturday at 1 p.m.  Many people think this is a trap game for the Falcons as Pace is 0-6 on the season, but the Falcons are keeping to their motto of focusing on one game at a time.  This week is Pace and we know that we need to win this game to stay in contention for the DII playoffs.

Please come out and support the Falcons this Saturday at Pace University.

      Dwight "Dewey" Evans

We honor Dwight Evans as the Boston Sports Then and Now Athlete of the Month. With the opening of the baseball season around the corner, the choice of “Dewey” Evans is fitting. He was a player who gave his all, all the time to the Boston Red Sox where he played from 1972 to 1990. He is one of the best players not in the Baseball Hall Of Fame.

Dwight Michael Evans made an immediate impact in his professional baseball career by winning the International League’s MVP in 1972. With AAA Louisville, Evans had 17 hrs, 95 RBI and hit .300.

Dewey was called up to the tail end of the ’72 season. On September 16th, he pinch ran and was 0-1 at the plate. He played 18 games and decent numbers during his call up. In 57 plate appearances, Evans had 1 hr, 6 RBI and batted .263.

Dwight Evans called right field in Fenway Park his home. He was a defensive standout and offensively could hold his own.
