Inside The Huddle: Bentley Falcons Have Destiny in Their Hands

Sporting an 8-1 record, the Bentley Falcons can win the NE-10 title and earn a spot in the NCAA Playoffs with a win at Stonehill on November 7th.

The Bentley Falcons have now put their own destiny in their hands after winning 24-20 last Saturday against the Assumption Greyhounds to improve to 8-1 on the season.  This week the Falcons are resting up and getting ready for their last opponent, Stonehill Skyhawks, on November 7.

Last week the Falcons got back to their game plan as the offense had 314 total yards and ate up 30 minutes of clock.  Bryant Johnson connected with John Malone twice and Kelley Rowe once for scores in the second half.  Then Tyler McNamara made a 24 yard field goal early in the fourth.

The defense had another great game as linebacker Matt Zahoruiko had another standout game with 10 tackles, a fumble recovery, and an interception with 2:16 left in the fourth.  Matt Welch and Eric Song both forced fumbles and Song was able to return it to the Assumptions 45.

This week the Falcons have cracked the AFCA Division II Top 25 for the first time since 2004.  Bentley has a bye week this week and will wrap up the regular season at Stonehill on November 7th.

With one week left and being on the verge of a NE-10 championship and a spot in the National Playoffs, the Falcons game plan will not change.  The Falcons will stay focused on the game at hand and not look to the future.

As we have said all season long, if we win week in and week out, everything will sort out.  So far this has worked out for us and we are not going to change our ways with one regular season game left.

Bryan Mroczka is a senior offensive lineman for the Bentley University Falcons. Each week during the 2009 season, Bryan will give a preview of the next game for the Falcons and also chronicle some of the things a student athlete deals with on a regular basis.

      Dwight "Dewey" Evans

We honor Dwight Evans as the Boston Sports Then and Now Athlete of the Month. With the opening of the baseball season around the corner, the choice of “Dewey” Evans is fitting. He was a player who gave his all, all the time to the Boston Red Sox where he played from 1972 to 1990. He is one of the best players not in the Baseball Hall Of Fame.

Dwight Michael Evans made an immediate impact in his professional baseball career by winning the International League’s MVP in 1972. With AAA Louisville, Evans had 17 hrs, 95 RBI and hit .300.

Dewey was called up to the tail end of the ’72 season. On September 16th, he pinch ran and was 0-1 at the plate. He played 18 games and decent numbers during his call up. In 57 plate appearances, Evans had 1 hr, 6 RBI and batted .263.

Dwight Evans called right field in Fenway Park his home. He was a defensive standout and offensively could hold his own.
