Last week the Falcons had a bye week, which allowed them the time to get players healthy.  Although Bentley didn’t play, they were able to climb in both the regional rankings and AFCA Division II Poll.  Bentley has moved back to fourth in the NCAA Division II Super Region One and 24th in the American Football Coaches Association Division II Coaches’ Poll.

The regional rankings are used to determine the seedings for the NCAA Division II playoffs, with the top two teams in each region receiving a first round bye and the next two hosting first-round home games.

Although Bentley clinched a piece of the Northeast-10 title Friday night when Southern Connecticut fell to Merrimack, Bentley has nothing else on their mind except beating Stonehill and winning the league out right.

Bentley has not and will not change the way they prepare for each game. The Falcons take each game one at a time, never looking to the future.  Don’t be surprised by Stonehill’s record, 4-5, as the Skyhawks always come prepared to play the Falcons.

One thing that is tough for athletes is the beginning and ending of seasons.  When sports seasons begin the athlete’s free time gets cut in half and depending at what point of the school year may get overwhelmed with schoolwork.  Athletes have to balance their time between school and sports so that they stay in good academic standing.

As seasons wind down athletes are usually getting run down, mentally, emotionally, and physically.  One thing that helps this is having a winning record and being on the verge of going to the playoffs.

This week the Falcons travel to Stonehill College on Saturday, November 7th for a 12:00PM game.  Please help cheer the Falcons to another win and to the sole ownership of the Northeast-10 Championship title.

Bryan Mroczka is a senior offensive lineman for the Bentley University Falcons. Each week during the 2009 season, Bryan will give a preview of the next game for the Falcons and also chronicle some of the things a student athlete deals with on a regular basis.

      Dwight "Dewey" Evans

We honor Dwight Evans as the Boston Sports Then and Now Athlete of the Month. With the opening of the baseball season around the corner, the choice of “Dewey” Evans is fitting. He was a player who gave his all, all the time to the Boston Red Sox where he played from 1972 to 1990. He is one of the best players not in the Baseball Hall Of Fame.

Dwight Michael Evans made an immediate impact in his professional baseball career by winning the International League’s MVP in 1972. With AAA Louisville, Evans had 17 hrs, 95 RBI and hit .300.

Dewey was called up to the tail end of the ’72 season. On September 16th, he pinch ran and was 0-1 at the plate. He played 18 games and decent numbers during his call up. In 57 plate appearances, Evans had 1 hr, 6 RBI and batted .263.

Dwight Evans called right field in Fenway Park his home. He was a defensive standout and offensively could hold his own.
