Swing Juice, Jerry Remy’s Partners With Boston Sports Blogapalooza

Posted on February 08, 2010 by Joe Gill

BSB will be held on Sunday, March 28th at Jerry Remy's at Fenway.

An idea is just that unless others share your passion for the concept. Well the Boston Sports Blogapalooza(BSB) Express is rolling down the tracks and people are jumping on board.

BSB has only been on the drawing board for about two weeks and everything is coming together beyond my expectations.

My idea to put together a tweet up for Bruins fans morphed into something even bigger. I thought to myself, why not get all the Boston sports bloggers together in one place?

These Social Media Outlets for Sports (bloggers) can finally meet, trade social media tips, and talk shop in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Then I thought why not incorporate the Boston media, local companies, and music.

Media of both types (social and traditional) could mingle and discuss all the hot topics on the Boston Sports Scene.

Local companies could network with bloggers about their products and services. Partnerships between these companies and social media outlets would be agreed upon right at the event.

Bloggers can help promote and build a buzz about their partners’ offerings.

In return, bloggers would generate revenue through these cross promotions.

Everyone one wins!

Boston Sports Blogapalooza was born.

I began to share my idea and it just snowballed. Bloggers were extremely excited about the concept of such an event.

With this positive feedback and energy, I would be a fool not to see this idea to fruition.

The RI based sport drink company has agreed to co-sponsor BSB.

Through Twitter, I found my first sponsor, Swing Juice. The Rhode Island based energy drink company, shared the same passion for this concept as I did. CEO Jon Mason and I met and a partnership was born instantly.

No gray areas. No doubts. Just a passion and confidence in each other to execute the best and most memorable event possible.

It’s ideal when two parties are on the same page regarding business.  We both share a love for social media and realize the power social media outlets possess. Swing Juice and Blogapalooza were a marriage made for each other.

Speaking of marriages, what can you say about Jerry “Rem Dawg” Remy?

He has become a Boston sports icon going far beyond his playing days with

Jerry Remy's Bar and Grill is the official venue for Boston Sports Blogapalooza.

Boston’s favorite baseball team.

He is the president of Red Sox Nation. He is the brains behind The Remy Report. And recently, his reach has gone far beyond just baseball.

You may have seen Jerry Remy’s at Logan airport.  The Jerry Remy brand is growing.

And it’s coming to the Fenway Park area!  Perfect fit if you ask me.

Of course, Jerry Remy’s Bar and Grill was on the top of my MUST HAVE venues to host Boston Sports Blogapalooza.

A Boston Sports Icon and hopefully A Boston Sports Iconic event would be forever linked.

When Don Bailey, GM of Jerry Remy’s, called me and said that he was all in, the grin on my face could have been seen from outer space.

I met with Don and got a behind the scenes tour of the next premier sports bar in the Fenway Park area.

Look out Game On!

They are coming with a rising high fast ball right under your chin.

I bet Pedro would be proud.

So I have built the interest for this gathering via social media with ZERO budget.

I have a sponsor or I would like to say, a partner who shares my vision.

I have THE venue to stage the next big thing in Boston.

I also have Brian Richard and The Hootchies to help you GET YOUR BLOG ON!

What’s a ‘Palooza without music, right?

So here is the skinny, folks. If you love sports and love to write about them, I want you at this event. If you are a fan of a bloggers work, I want you at this event.

If you are a Boston sports media member, you have to be at this event. You all tweet, blog, and have Facebook pages, and you know how important social media is. You need to meet the bloggers that eat, breathe, and sleep it every day.

If you are company that recognizes the importance of social media and the people that utilize it, I want you at this event. I want you to have a presence at this event.

I need your help to make this event a smashing success.

If you are interested to be a co-sponsor with Swing Juice and become affiliated with the event that will take the Blogosphere by storm, please contact me at bostonsportsthenandnow@gmail.com.

I don’t want this train to leave the station without you.

Vintage Athlete of the Month: Bill Russell

We honor Bill Russell as the Boston Sports Then and Now Athlete of the Month. In the dictionary next to the definition of champion, there should be a picture of Bill Russell.

Before he even entered the NBA, Russell experienced his share of collegiate basketball glory while playing for San Francisco State.  Russell was the defensive core of a team that won 55 games in a row.

Russell was a shot blocking machine during his college career. After batting away 13 shots against the NCAA basketball powerhouse UCLA, legendary coach John Wooden said of Russell, “He is the greatest defensive man I’ve ever seen.”

And defense does indeed win championships in basketball, as SF State won back to back NCAA titles in 1955 and 1956.

Due to his stellar collegiate career, Bill Russell was an easy choice for captain of the US Olympic Men’s Basketball team in 1956. His winning ways continued on the world’s biggest stage. The United States squad would go on to defeat the USSR, 89-55 to capture the gold medal.

Before the age of 22, Bill Russell experienced championship glory three times.

And he was far from done.

The 6’9” center was a top prospect in the 1956 draft. The only question was which NBA franchise would choose this natural born winner.

    • BST&N Book Review: Wicked Good Year
      June 29, 2010 | 6:58 pm

This is a wicked good read.

I review Steve Buckley’s Wicked Good Year.

A great read about the incredible Boston sports year of 2007.

The Red Sox and the Celtics took home championships. The Patriots were 3 minutes from a perfect season and the Bruins were the Bruins.

Sit back and enjoy my video review.

This book is wicked good and wicked pissah too!
