The Tyler-Taylor Tally: Where Seguin and Hall Stand
After Tyler Seguin beat Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist with a laser beam, the Bruins rookie had 4 goals and 3 assists in 16 games. He has spent time on power play and also on the third and fourth line.
Tyler Seguin has shown signs of brilliance as a rookie. His moves have left Bruins fans in awe early on. The up side for Seguin is very high, but he still has a lot to learn especially in the defensive zone. He still needs to work on this aspect of the game, but this will come with experience.
With so much talent on the Bruins, Seguin doesn’t have to be the man. Well not yet anways.
What about Taylor Hall, who was selected before Tyler Seguin, as the number one overall pick in the 2010 NHL Draft?
How has Hall held up in the hockey hotbed of Edmonton, Alberta?
After 16 games, Hall just like Seguin has seven points (3 goals and 4 assists). However, Hall has -7 plus/minus
thus far on the young season while Seguin is just a -1. Of course this stat is a reflection of their teams.
The Bruins can be considered an elite team with the likes of Zdeno Chara, Milan Lucic, Nathan Horton, Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci and the red hot Tim Thomas in net. Boston stands at 10-5-1, second in the Northeast division behind Montreal.
Edmonton on the other hand is struggling mightily at 4-9-3, dead last in the Northwest division with 11 points. The Oilers are -24 in goal differential. The team’s leading scorer is defenseman Ryan Whitney with 14 assists.
It’s going to be a tough road for Taylor Hall with a team with minimal talent.
Seguin and Hall have entered in polar opposite situations.
Tyler Seguin could not ask for a more ideal environment. He is in a pressure free situation which will allow him to polish his game. He will be given the time and experience to mature as a NHL hockey player.
Unfortunately, Hall does not have this luxury. Taylor Hall is viewed as the savior on an Edmonton Oilers team that is in the re-building stage.
Tyler and Taylor will always be linked in history. And it will be fascinating to see how both Hall and Seguin fair in their rookie seasons.
Stay tuned to keep tabs on the Tyler-Taylor Tally.
