Project Cupid: Buy Your Valentine (For Charity)!
Last night was the 3rd annual Project Cupid event at Estate, an event set up to raise money (almost $20k according to figures released on Sunday) for the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Project Cupid began in 2009 by founder Amy Blue, after losing her nine year old cousin to a battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Project Cupid is no run of the mill night with raffles and auctions; instead it is a fun, much more exciting take on raising money. It includes a live auction of eligible bachelors and bachelorettes, sports memorabilia, and raffle opportunities. It’s the perfect event for Boston sports fans given all of the auction items: a Paul Pierce autographed jersey, an autographed version of the infamous Bobby Orr photo, Red Sox tickets, and a Patriots package that included an autographed football and tickets to a game.
While the sports-themed auction and raffles gave guests a unique opportunity to take home prizes in the name of helping out a great cause, the best “prizes” of the night came in the form of dates with bachelors and bachelorettes. The most highlighted bachelorette of the night was Boston favorite and Red Sox personality Heidi Watney. The date with Heidi Watney included first row tickets behind home plate to a Red Sox game, and dinner at Jerry Remy’s restaurant and ended up raising $5,500 for the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
The live auction was hosted by image consultant, Emmi Sorokin from It’s a Man’s World, and Tixlist founder, Christian Galvin. While Heidi may have been the most famous of the night, the emcees, bachelors, and bachelorettes got everyone excited about all of the eligible “prizes”. The emcees were also great at “selling” the bachelors and bachelorettes, making it that much more entertaining to watch. While I literally forgot my wallet at home, if I had my credit card on me I definitely would have been tempted to buy a valentine.
Everyone I spoke to was raving about Project Cupid and a lot of them were telling stories about memories from the years before, as well as bragging about Amy Blue and all of her hard work. The best part of Project Cupid was how obvious it was that everyone involved in the event, and even just at the event, felt very passionate about the night. The energy at Project Cupid was infectious and I walked away impressed and looking forward to attending another Project Cupid event in the future!
While the event is over, if you would like you can still donate to Project Cupid on their website.
