Bruins-Penguins: Campbell Breaks Leg, But Stays On Ice To Finish Shift (VIDEO)
You can’t say enough about Bruins forward Gregory Campbell. He is one of the most selfless players on the team. He dove in front of a Pittsburgh shot and he was visibly in pain, but he is a warrior and he did his job. “Soupy” stayed on the ice during the penalty kill until the puck was cleared.
The TD Garden crowd chanted “Campbell, Cambell” after his herculean effort.
Campbell’s effort was not lost on his teammates:
“The guy had a [shooting] lane and he sacrificed his body and it was a great thing,” said Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask. “It’s a bad thing he got hurt. He blocks a lot of shots and he took one for the team there and we really wanted to win this for him.”
ESPN Boston has reported that Gregory Campbell suffered a broken leg and will be lost for the season.
The Bruins have to decide who to “try” to replace Campbell with because he is truly irreplaceable with his penalty killing skills. Candidates for breaking into the lineup are Carl Soderberg, Jay Pandolfo and Kaspars Daugavins.
