Bruins-Blackhawks: B’s Star Patrice Bergeron May Have Suffered Spleen Injury

Things have gone from bad to worse for the Boston Bruins. During their 3-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks during Game Five of the Stanley Cup Final, Bruins center Patrice Bergeron was injured limiting him to six plus minutes of ice time.

CSNNE reports that Bergeron may have suffered a spleen injury.

Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet in Canada reported through his sources that it may be a spleen injury, but there was no confirmation from the Bruins into the wee hours of Sunday morning. It’s an injury that’s potentially similar to one that Peter Forsberg suffered during the 2011 Stanley Cup playoffs when he had a ruptured spleen, and missed an entire season due to the injury.

The Bruins still have not confirmed the reports, but a trip to the hospital for observation is not a good sign. If it is indeed a spleen injury, Bergeron is done for the playoffs and the Bruins have a HUGE VOID to fill to try to keep their Stanley Cup hopes alive.
