B’s Beat: Tuukka Rask Is A Man On A Mission

Members of the Tim Thomas Sacred Cow Club AKA Tuukka Rask Haters, you may want to go to YouTube and watch Timmy’s Bruins highlights on loop. Because that chapter is closed shut and that volume in Bruins history has been filed away.

This is Tuukka Time like it or not.

The Bruins netminder has been a man on a mission since he returned from Sochi where he backstopped Team Finland to a Bronze medal (shutting out Team USA and beating Russia in the process). Most fans (myself included) wanted another Finnish goalie to step up & beat Rask out, so he could rest for the NHL stretch run.

Well playing in the Olympics did not kill Tuukka Rask, it made him STRONGER.

Besides a team wide dud versus Washington after the break, Tuukka Rask has been stellar and giving the Bruins a chance to win night after night.

The Bruins started off slow against the Rangers surrendering 20 shots in the first period, but Tuukka held down the fort. The Bruins would rally and go on to bury New York, 6-3.

Boston fell behind the Lightning 2-0 and battled back to force the game to OT & then to a shootout. Rask, who is not a fan of the shootout, made it personal playing aggressive poke checking one attempt and stoning the rest.

Reilly Smith buried the winner in the seventh stanza and the Bruins won with much thanks to Tuukka.

Then just recently Tuukka Rask faced his demons north of the border, the Montreal Canadiens. In his career prior to last night, he only beat the Habs TWICE in 14 games. The Bruins long time rival was #40’s albatross.

But Tuukka would be damned if the Les Habitants would embarrass him yet again. He staved off another first period assault as his team yielded 14 shots and a few of the breakaway variety.

Rask kept his cool and YET AGAIN kept the Black & Gold in the contest.

After all was said and done, the Bruins broke their 5 game losing streak to Montreal with a 4-1 victory as Rask turned away 35 Canadiens shots.

As Rask goes, so goes the Boston Bruins.

There has been no signs of Tuukka Rask or the B’s getting tired or complacent down the stretch.

They are hungry and want to finish their championship mission that fell one game short last year…..

Tuukka-Rask

And don’t be surprised if Tuukka decides to go hot tubing with Lord Stanley again….shutting up the Tim Thomas Sacred Cow Club FOREVER.
