Boston Sports Then and Now

Can you still remember the exuberance and happiness you felt during last week’s Boston Marathon? The many different completed runs and all the wonderful finishes? So many faces like yours shining with excitement—not just thrilled with your own marathon result, but also with the tremendous accomplishments of your fellow marathoners? Your joy even helped to carry along those who bravely struggled to achieve their desired result on Marathon Monday and needed encouragement along the way.

Within the sounds of your footsteps during your next preparation for another running celebration or a different sporting event, these memories might echo. They may even allow you to go further and add more meaning to each step—a testimonial to what marathon magic is all about.

Those difficult 26.2 miles are a challenge beyond measure for some, a competition to achieve a certain time for others, and for many a way to prove they have the fortitude that will never let them give up.   Read the rest of this entry →

She is warming up Boston Sports Fans!

Every Boston sports fan has a wish list of the games he or she wants to witness at least once in a lifetime. Of course, every die-hard fan would want to be in the stands when the Patriots win the Super Bowl or a Red Sox pitcher hurls a no-hitter. But those unscripted moments and unpredictable results that make sports so great—and sometimes so frustrating—also mean there’s no certainty they will ever happen again.

So, sticking to just those dates written in stone on the region’s sporting calendar, here’s my subjective list of ten events that all die-hard Boston sports fans should experience firsthand at least once. This bucket list includes a mix of events that are quintessentially Boston, the hottest tickets in town, and combustible rivalries steeped in history.

From reading his book, I learned such fun facts as the Wilmington based (my hometown) Fenway Painters were chosen to apply the famous great coat to Fenway’s left field wall. It turns out Red Sox executives chose them because they thought the company’s name was fitting for the job.

I also uncovered that the NFL’s Washington Redskins and Indianapolis Colts started their roots in Beantown.  Yes unbelievable, but true Patriots fans!

This book is choc full of historical tid-bits that will allow you to stump your co-workers around the water cooler/coffee machine or your buddies at your favorite sports bar.
