The Bentley Falcons will look to stay undefeated this week as they meet the powerful offense of Merrimack College Warriors.  Last week the Falcons had a great 30-20 win over American International to remain perfect so far in 2009 .

It was a team effort that topped the speed of AIC last week as Bentley soared past the Yellow Jackets in the fourth quarter.  The offense had a total of 390 yards with great individual efforts from John Malone (10 catches for 103 yards) and Bryant Johnson (246 yards passing and 72 yards running).

On the defensive side Matt Zahoruiko had 12 tackles, and Liam Reagan, Chris Carroll, and Eric Song each had interceptions that played a huge role in the games outcome.

The defensive and offensive lines also played a great game, as we would not be at 5-0 without them.  We also have the best kicker in the NE-10 as Tyler McNamara made 3 more field goals.

Inside The Huddle: First Home Game 0

The Bentley Falcons opened the 2009 football season with a 14-13 comeback win over Ohio Dominican.

After an exciting opening game against Ohio Dominican, the Bentley University football squad is 1-0.  In the second half our team came together and scored two touchdowns to come from behind and win the game.

Not too long after we got back from the airport we were practicing hard for our next game against Curry College.  Curry is a DIII team, but don’t let that fool you.  They are a very well coached team and love to fly around the field. They advance to the playoffs almost every year.

One of the hardest things for a college athlete to do is to juggle academics and athletics.  In a normal in-season week we have lifting twice a week, film every day, and practice every day.  The athletics side takes up about 5 to 6 hours of an athlete’s day.

2009 Bentley Falcons.

As preseason football camps begin to come to a close the opening games are only a week away for some college football teams.  I personally play football for Division II, Bentley University and we are preparing for our first game in Ohio on August 29th.

    • Steve Grogan

      Steve Grogan

We honor Steve Grogan as the Boston Sports Then and Now Athlete of the Month. The former Patriots quarterback left it all on the field during his 16 year career. Grogan was playing the “Patriots Way” before Bill Belichick introduced it in 2000.  He led by example and his teammates were always behind him.

Steve Grogan was drafted by Patriots coach Chuck Fairbanks in the fifth round of the 1975 draft out of Kansas State. He was one of the school’s all time passing and total offense leaders. Grogan not only beat you with his arm but he was exceptionally quick for a man standing at 6’4”.

The Patriots already had their franchise quarterback in place when he was drafted. Former Heisman Trophy winner, Jim Plunkett had been the Patriots starter for his first four years in the league. However, Coach Fairbanks was not afraid to make a move if a player was under-performing.  It didn’t matter who he was.

Midway through the 1975 season, Grogan was given the reigns of the Patriots offense.  He started the last seven games with only one victory to his credit. As a rookie, Grogan posted respectable numbers with 1976 yards with 11 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.

He also added 110 yards on the ground with three rushing scores.

This would just be a sneak preview for things to come from the lanky quarterback out of K-State.

    • BST&N Book Review: Wicked Good Year
      June 29, 2010 | 6:58 pm

This is a wicked good read.

I review Steve Buckley’s Wicked Good Year.

A great read about the incredible Boston sports year of 2007.

The Red Sox and the Celtics took home championships. The Patriots were 3 minutes from a perfect season and the Bruins were the Bruins.

Sit back and enjoy my video review.

This book is wicked good and wicked pissah too!
