Pat Patriot Trying to Excite New England Crowd

In a story that sounds more reminiscent of something coming out of the Tiger Woods’ scandal, New England Patriots mascot, Pat, has reportedly been arrested as part of a prostitution sting.

The Providence Journal reports that one of the 14 individuals who serves as the “Pat Patriot” mascot has been arrested by R.I. State Police in a prostitution sting.

Robert Sormanti, 47, of Warwick, R.I., is one of the people who wears the mascot costume for the New England Patriots. When contacted by the newspaper, the team released the following statement:

“The Patriot mascot costume is worn by multiple people, all are held responsible for their actions. The individual in question has been suspended.”

The Patriots official added, “Our main concern is that none of the other individuals who play Pat want to get in the suit.”

Patriots owner, Robert Kraft, has allegedly applied for Federal Stimulus money in hopes of getting the over-sized suit dry-cleaned.

Added Kraft, “Not since John Hannah arrived with the nickname “Hog” or Brady was photographed with the goat have we had such a sexual scandal here in New England.”

The Vice president of Human Resources for the Patriot’s weighed in on Pat’s arrest, “Pat does a great job arousing the crowd and apparently, he began taking the job home with him.”

Coach Bill Belichick saw the scandal in a different light, “Our offensive line has had difficulty opening up holes and we may have found a solution for our running game.”

Rumors have surfaced that the Patriots may change the name of the mascot from Pat to either Peter, Dick, Johnson, John or Woody.

Patriots Vice-President Jonathan Kraft added, “We are uncertain at this time whether Pat was actually wearing the costume at the time of his indiscretion. But since it is constructed without a fly, we believe that only the large head may have been worn.”

There had been talk of the Patriots putting up a statue of their famous mascot, but stories of Pat’s erection were premature.

In the video footage seen below, Pat is apparently scouring the end-zone following a touchdown searching frantically for a madam.

Said Sormanti following his arrest, “If I had only been satisfied with a ‘Pat’.”

Pat Patriot: What’s Old Is New 1

Pat Patriot was the face of the Patriots from 1961-1992.

Pat Patriot was the face of the Patriots from 1961-1992.

Wow, how scary is this guy?

Exactly.

For years, Pat Patriot was like the kid on the playground who wore thick glasses, picked his nose, and dressed funny.

The other kids made fun of him and beat him up.

As fans, we endured it because we figured a team representing New England probably should have a cartoon logo of a deranged Paul Revere, set to snap the ball.

Deranged Patriotism was the general idea, after all. Besides, he had that quaint charm going for him.

Vintage Athlete of the Month: Bill Russell

We honor Bill Russell as the Boston Sports Then and Now Athlete of the Month. In the dictionary next to the definition of champion, there should be a picture of Bill Russell.

Before he even entered the NBA, Russell experienced his share of collegiate basketball glory while playing for San Francisco State.  Russell was the defensive core of a team that won 55 games in a row.

Russell was a shot blocking machine during his college career. After batting away 13 shots against the NCAA basketball powerhouse UCLA, legendary coach John Wooden said of Russell, “He is the greatest defensive man I’ve ever seen.”

And defense does indeed win championships in basketball, as SF State won back to back NCAA titles in 1955 and 1956.

Due to his stellar collegiate career, Bill Russell was an easy choice for captain of the US Olympic Men’s Basketball team in 1956. His winning ways continued on the world’s biggest stage. The United States squad would go on to defeat the USSR, 89-55 to capture the gold medal.

Before the age of 22, Bill Russell experienced championship glory three times.

And he was far from done.

The 6’9” center was a top prospect in the 1956 draft. The only question was which NBA franchise would choose this natural born winner.

      June 29, 2010 | 6:58 pm

This is a wicked good read.

I review Steve Buckley’s Wicked Good Year.

A great read about the incredible Boston sports year of 2007.

The Red Sox and the Celtics took home championships. The Patriots were 3 minutes from a perfect season and the Bruins were the Bruins.

Sit back and enjoy my video review.

This book is wicked good and wicked pissah too!
