The Red Sox playoff hopes are dimming. The Patriots, Bruins, and Celtics are about to embark on another season and it’s almost time for Boston Sports Blogapalooza II!
Your favorite networking event where social media and Beantown Sports collide is back!
Can you believe it’s been almost four months since ‘Palooza I?
It was a smashing success with over 80 sports bloggers, fans, and Boston media members from WEEI, NESN, The Boston Herald, and Comcast SportsNet New England congregating at the Baseball Tavern for day of sports talk. It didn’t matter if you wrote for your own website or blogged for a major media outlet, everyone shared one thing…..there undying passion for Boston sports.
BSB will be held on Sunday, March 28th at Jerry Remy's at Fenway.
An idea is just that unless others share your passion for the concept. Well the Boston Sports Blogapalooza(BSB) Express is rolling down the tracks and people are jumping on board.
BSB has only been on the drawing board for about two weeks and everything is coming together beyond my expectations.
My idea to put together a tweet up for Bruins fans morphed into something even bigger. I thought to myself, why not get all the Boston sports bloggers together in one place?
These Social Media Outlets for Sports (bloggers) can finally meet, trade social media tips, and talk shop in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Then I thought why not incorporate the Boston media, local companies, and music.
Media of both types (social and traditional) could mingle and discuss all the hot topics on the Boston Sports Scene.
Local companies could network with bloggers about their products and services. Partnerships between these companies and social media outlets would be agreed upon right at the event.
Bloggers can help promote and build a buzz about their partners’ offerings.
In return, bloggers would generate revenue through these cross promotions.
It started as a Bruins tweet-up but has morphed to something bigger. Much bigger.
I am relatively new to the Boston sports blogging scene, I have been writing for Boston Sports Then And Now for six months. Writing is an untapped passion I never knew I had.
I have met a lot of great people via Twitter, who write about the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics, Breakers, and Patriots. All of these bloggers write with passion and great dedication to their favorite team(s). Boston Sports bloggers are a tightly knit community and I can proudly say I have been accepted with open arms.
But, how do I get all of these Boston Sports Social Media Outlets (that’s what bloggers are folks!) in one place? Then it came to me in a vision!
Boston Sports Blogapalooza!
My event marketing background kicked in full throttle and the rest is history.
Why not organize an event where bloggers can meet, network, share social media ideas, and of course talk sports? Oh did I mention drinks and music too?
BSB will also provide a venue for Boston sports bloggers to meet local sports media members. Share your thoughts and opinions with the media bloggers, beat reporters, and radio show hosts in person! It’s all about networking folks and in a fun laid back atmosphere (no suits and resumes required!)
What can be better than spending an afternoon talking sports?
Nick Moore, brother of the Saints' Lance Moore, is now a Patriot.
News of the Patriots signing of wide-receiver, Nick Moore came via his Twitter Page.
“Its OFFICIAL..I’m a Patriot! Thanks for all the prayers an’ support everyone!!!”
Moore, who played his college ball at the University of Toledo, has Patriots’ fans praying for more than that. They are likely on their knees hoping for a playoff miracle following the loss of the league’s top pass receiver, Wes Welker.
Moore, who was recently cut from the practice squad of the Minnesota Vikings, tweeted the news last night after he was signed to the Patriots practice squad, a move necessitated by the injury to Welker.
We honor Steve Grogan as the Boston Sports Then and Now Athlete of the Month. The former Patriots quarterback left it all on the field during his 16 year career. Grogan was playing the “Patriots Way” before Bill Belichick introduced it in 2000. He led by example and his teammates were always behind him.
Steve Grogan was drafted by Patriots coach Chuck Fairbanks in the fifth round of the 1975 draft out of Kansas State. He was one of the school’s all time passing and total offense leaders. Grogan not only beat you with his arm but he was exceptionally quick for a man standing at 6’4”.
The Patriots already had their franchise quarterback in place when he was drafted. Former Heisman Trophy winner, Jim Plunkett had been the Patriots starter for his first four years in the league. However, Coach Fairbanks was not afraid to make a move if a player was under-performing. It didn’t matter who he was.
Midway through the 1975 season, Grogan was given the reigns of the Patriots offense. He started the last seven games with only one victory to his credit. As a rookie, Grogan posted respectable numbers with 1976 yards with 11 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.
He also added 110 yards on the ground with three rushing scores.
This would just be a sneak preview for things to come from the lanky quarterback out of K-State.
